While there may have not been high snow accumulations at lower elevations, Sunday’s wind gusts were a cause for concern.

The National Weather Service in Great Falls recorded 97 mile per hour wind gusts near the Joplin Nelson weather station.

In Grass Range, wind gusts hit 71 mph while Great Falls experienced 62 mph peak gusts. Havre clocked in wind gusts at 55 mph.

The spring blizzard shut down a portion of Highway 87 between Armington Junction and Stanford. Severe driving conditions were reported for several highways in north-central Montana including portions of Interstate 15 near Great Falls.

A cooler than average trend will continue as we head into May.
