Winter weather is heading our way.

Much of the state is under a Winter Weather Advisory, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for portions of East Central Montana.

The warnings and advisories go in effect Friday night and expire Sunday morning.

Heavy snow is the main concern through the weekend.

Snow will begin to move in Friday night, and widespread snow will be falling by Saturday morning.

A strong band of snow will develop in Eastern Montana by Saturday afternoon, and last into Saturday night.

Snow begins to wind down on Sunday.

Snow totals are still a little in question, especially in places like Havre in Lewistown, but in general snow totals in East Central Montana will be between 5 and 8 inches, with higher amounts of up to a foot possible.

To the west, including Great Falls and Helena, snow totals will be  much lighter, except at higher elevations.
