Victim of fatal Kalispell shooting identified

KALISPELL — Authorities have released the name of the man who was shot and killed on Thursday morning at Fuel Fitness in Kalispell.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Matthew David Hurley of Kalispell.

Kalispell Police Chief Doug Overman tells MTN News that the "bystander” -- who is not a suspect at this time -- involved has been released from the hospital.

The suspect remains in the hospital in critical care under law enforcement supervision.

The Kalispell Police Department notes the identities of others involved in the incident will not be released at this time. KPD and the Flathead County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting.

Chief Overman said the investigation could take days to even weeks to conclude to due dozens of witness interviews taking place.

“We owe it to them, to all the parties involved and the family of the deceased to find out the truth and talk to every witness and person that we can, yeah it was a very public place surrounded by businesses, there will be an extensive investigation,” said Overman.
