Shopping looks a lot different during a pandemic. And for a couple of local businesses, not only do they have to make sure they stay afloat financially, they have to make sure they sanitize their products 100 percent to prevent the spread of the virus.
“We did a lot of research and made sure that our steamers, for when we take in clothes, we steam everything really well and it kills all viruses, germs, and bacteria. So, we make sure to do that so people feel more comfortable,” explained Rachel Halberson with ReCouture.
Like so many other small businesses, once ReCouture opened back up they knew they needed to make changes to operate during a pandemic.
“It’s been an adjustment but it’s something we’ve had to take extra precautions to try to make our employees feel better about being at work and also the customers,” she said.
And just down the street, a thrift store has similar experiences and believes they’ve been a source of comfort for customers.
“I think being in somewhere like a grocery store or a corporate place feels a lot more harsh right now considering the situation. I think things like consignment stores gives people a little bit more comfort,” explained Kyle Collins with ReThink Thrift.
For ReThink Thrift, they believe their reputation is working for them.
“We clean everything. I think we’ve been known for having a pretty tidy, clean store, and our customers and our regulars know that and there hasn’t been any problems,” Collins said.
A lot of the shops I’ve visited are placing even more restrictions in their stores in addition to the local and statewide restrictions already in place.
