Woman and dog die after being hit by a train in Blaine County

A 41-year-old woman and her dog died after being hit by a freight train at around 5 p.m. on Saturday just east of Chinook.

The woman was walking her dog along the train tracks along U.S. Highway 82, according to Blaine County Sheriff John Colby, when the train hit and killed her and her dog upon impact.

Responding agencies included the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Burlington Northern Railway Police Department, Blaine County Fire Department, and Blaine County Emergency Services.

The accident caused traffic delays along the highway for several hours. The scene was cleared around 10 p.m.

The woman's identity has not yet been released, and no further information was available on Saturday night.
