PHILLIPS COUNTY — A 48-year-old man from Whitewater died in a single-vehicle crash on Stage Coach Road in Phillips County early Saturday morning.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the man was traveling southbound in a 1999 GMC Sierra truck about 15 miles from U.S. Highway 2 when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve while going downhill. The truck drove off the left-hand side of the road and rolled multiple times into a ditch. The driver was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The crash occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday and officers responded within about 10 minutes.
The road conditions were dry and gravelly. Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the crash.
The name of the man has not been released by MHP, and an investigation is ongoing. We'll update you if we learn more.
