FORT BENTON — The Fort Benton Police Department is asking for your help designing a new patch for the department.

The police department is accepting designs until January 1. There is no design requirement, but Chief Adam Jacques would like to have the word Montana on it; the current patch just says Fort Benton.

"Patch collectors from around the country may not know where Fort Benton is, so my thought process was I'd like to see Montana put on the patch. As we were going through, I was trying to think of a way to get the community involved. I thought, 'Well, let's put it out there to the community. Some kids, maybe at school, can draw some artistic things,’” Jacques said.

Designs can be submitted at Fort Benton City Hall. Jacques said there will be prizes for the patch that is selected as well as two others.

Jacques hopes to have the patches within about a month of choosing a new design.
