MISSOULA — The family of the man killed at a Missoula apartment complex this week says he was just about to start a new chapter in his life when he was gunned down.

According to court documents, 33-year-old Sundance Hernandez was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Creekside apartment building on Tuesday.

Hernandez’s younger sister Sirraya says Hernandez and her were extremely close after the two were adopted by their grandparents.

Sirraya says Hernandez had recently been released from prison and he and his family were excited for him to begin a new chapter in his life.

She told MTN News that they will never get the opportunity to see him develop and discover his full potential.

"We are all really broken you know my brother was only 33 years old and he didn’t deserve to die the way he died," Sirraya said.

"He was really excited and ready to change his life and I just don’t think that he got that chance," she added.

Sirraya says that the family is looking for answers at this point to what actually transpired between Hernandez and the suspected shooter Christopher Newrider.
