A 38-year old Butte man died in a one-vehicle rollover crash just west of Butte on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. It happened along a dirt road that runs between Butte and the community of Rocker, just past South Excelsior Avenue.
The crash was reported to the Montana Highway Patrol at about 2 p.m.
According to the MHP, the man was driving at high rate of speed when he lost control and went off the right side of the road. The car went over a culvert, hit a rock, and began to roll.
An MHP trooper said the man died at the scene, and the Ford Taurus was resting on its roof.
The name of the man has not been released at this point.
The MHP crash report states that the road was wet and covered in snow.
According to the MHP, the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash, along with speed.
