BILLINGS – The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine will begin at Montana’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities as early as next week, according to those with CVS Health.
Officials with the national pharmacy chain say mobilization efforts will begin Dec. 28 at 106 of Montana’s skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
It’s estimated the vaccine will reach 13,218 patients in Montana.
Pharmacies are able to administer the vaccine as a part of a federal contract.
Earlier this month, CVS Health says it was selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as one of two providers to administer COVID-19 vaccinations.
A spokesperson for the company told MTN News that CVS Pharmacy teams will make three visits to each long-term care facility to ensure residents and staff receive their initial shot and critical booster.
Then, most residents and staff will be fully vaccinated three to four weeks after the first visit.
“Depending on which vaccine they receive, CVS Health expects to complete its long-term care facility vaccination effort in approximately 12 weeks,” said Courtney Tavener with CVS.
And if you are curious when the average person can get the vaccine- likely around the start of 2021, Tavener says..
“While we are beginning with long-term care facilities, we also have an agreement with the HHS to eventually provide vaccines to the general public in our 10,000 CVS Pharmacy locations across the country in 2021, with more details to be shared at a later date,” said Tavener.
