LEWISTOWN — For 25 years the Fergus County Council On Aging has offered a variety of services to the elderly in Fergus County. Each month the organization provides nearly 4,000 meals with their home delivery service.
Since the beginning of COVID-19 in March of last year, those meals have been free of charge and open to anyone in the Lewistown community with food insecurity.
Lewistown mom Cheryl Noy says it’s been a big help for her and her son Calvin: “Since COVID it’s been so helpful with them delivering food it’s helped a lot and it gives us an extra meal a day.”
A regular of the home-delivered meals, Dorothy Brook looks forward to it every day: “Wonderful to receive, it’s always good, and it makes sure that a single person has a decent meal everyday”
“It’s seems that every week there’s more and more folks. Although unfortunately we’ve had a number of them that have gone off our meal roll just from passing away from COVID. We had quite a few of those. It seems most weeks we have two, three, four people at the senior level that are passing away from COVID,” said Dale Pfau, the director of the Council On Aging, about why opening the services to everyone in need was important.
"Now essentially we try to feed anyone in the area that has a food subsistence in their lives that they’re needing more,” said Pfau
