DILLON – Firefighters in Beaverhead County are fighting a 40-acre wildfire about a mile south of Bannack.
The Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center reported Tuesday afternoon that lightning likely caused the fire, which is burning in a mix of sagebrush and grass, but is moving into the timber.
There are three engines and multiple volunteer firefighting agencies on scene battling the blaze. A helicopter is also on the way to assist in containing the fire.
Lightning strikes also have started some smaller fires in the region that are expected to be kept under control.
