A pregnant woman who was reportedly dragged into the woods near Missoula Saturday has been located.

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) along with Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Police made contact with the alleged victim, who at first report was strangled and dragged into the woods near the north end of Missoula County.

The woman is being interviewed by officers and will be offered medical attention.

The initial allegations made to dispatch were “concerning and prompted a strong law enforcement response,” according to the MCSO.

The MCSO Special Response Team responded to the call Saturday afternoon near mile marker 14 on Highway 93 North between Evaro and Arlee.

As the investigation developed, the area was determined to be in Tribal Police jurisdiction, however, Missoula County continued to assist. Two Bear Air out of Whitefish also aided in search efforts.

MCSO spokeswoman Brenda Bassett said authorities did not believe the public was in danger.

The initial suspect is not facing charges related to Saturday’s incident, however, he had outstanding warrants for unrelated incidents.

Tribal Police continue to investigate the alleged assault.
