Crews quickly control grass fire west of Billings

Posted

BILLINGS – Firefighters quickly put out a grass fire just west of Billings on Sunday afternoon.

It happened near Homestead Park Drive south of Grand Avenue, west of 74th Street West.

A controlled burn went out of control before 2 p.m.

Firefighters from Billings and Molt responded.

Billings Battalion Chief Ed Regele said the fire came close to three buildings which were not burned.

Molt Chief Duane Bjerke said the person who started the seven-acre fire did not have a burn permit.

He said it’s important to get burn permits if the fire is not contained in a barrel.

Regele said the Billings Fire Department had already responded to three other incidents.

With so many trucks out, the brush truck was sent from Station 4 on 6th Street West and Terry Avenue, about 10 miles away from the fire.
