Montana Ag Network: Young ag leaders gathering in Butte

and last updated

Each fall for sixteen years, the Young Ag Leadership Conference has been a destination for young farmers, ranchers and agribusiness professionals. The one-of-a-kind event allows Montana’s young producers to come together across organization and commodity lines to better the industry.

This year, the event will be held in Butte, Oct. 4-6.

Coordinator Leah Johnson, a producer from Highwood, explained how the event brings together producers from diverse backgrounds.

“YALC was created by several commodity organizations from across the state of Montana,” Johnson said. “They created the conference with the idea to get young agriculturalists from all types of commodity lines together to improve the industry.”

Each fall, the conference provides keynote speakers, cutting-edge workshops and tours to help attendees grow in agriculture. It also serves as a networking event to create contacts in the industry.

“We haven't been to Butte with this conference before, so we're really excited that there is a conference center large enough to hold us,” said Johnson. “We'll be based at the Copper King Hotel. We’re excited to show Butte to people that maybe haven't spent much time there before. The industry tours of the Butte area are going to be a great addition this year.”
