Drum Coffee delivering to Missoula hospitals thanks to community donations

A Missoula business owner is doing his part to help those working on the front lines in the battle against the rapidly spreading coronavirus (COVID-19).

Drum Coffee’s John Wicks has the community rallying for the medical staff at Community Medical Center and St Patrick Hospital.

Wicks says he does two things well -- play drums and make coffee – and he is making the most of one of those skills.

“People that are really on the front line and really at risk are in dire need of anything to make them feel more secure,” Wicks said. “If there’s one thing coffee provides, other than a caffeine jolt, it’s a feeling of comfort.”

After spending much of the last two weeks delivering coffee himself to Missoula’s two hospitals, he decided to reach out through Instagram to see if community members wanted to help the cause -- and the community has responded. “In the first five minutes after posting that, I think I had 20 orders,” Wicks told MTN News.

He made a pair of deliveries totaling 77 drinks on Sunday. Wicks leaves the coffee outside the door, and a member of the staff brings takes it from there. The response by both those donating -- and the staff at the hospitals – has been overwhelming for Wicks.

“It’s tough to say without getting emotional but it’s amazing to me the gratitude that these people show just for coffee. And it’s also a testament to how badly people want to do something for these folks. That in itself tells me we need to be doing more.”

Wicks says donating is easy and he’ll continue to offer the service as long the need is there. Click here for more information on how you can help out.
