Boy Scouts annual Veterans Day Breakfast was held Sunday. Troop 1 scouts served food to those who’ve served our country.
For newer members like Blake Bandel, this event means just as much to them as it does to the veterans.
“When I was little my dad would always take me to these breakfasts and I’d always be running around helping its really nice to have. I had a kid do that today and I thought man, I used to be that kid,” Bandel said.
Part of their duty as scouts is serving the community. They rack up service hours in order to move up to another rank.
“My favorite part about it is having to be able to help our community and help them feel more surrounded by people that love them,” Bandel said.
Bandel and several ranks of scouts all helped serve the veterans on Sunday morning at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish.
Being able to treat vets and other community members to a nice meal is one of Eagle Scout Joshua Ritchie’s favorite ways to serve.
“This happens to be one of the favorite events of our troop and all of the scouts. We enjoy coming here and serving all the community members of Great Falls so that we can get service hours for our merit badges and our ranks and so that other members can get breakfast,” Ritchie said.
Ritchie has always felt a special connection to the military, as both his father and brother are members of the Air Force.
