The Kalispell School Board will discuss the search for a new superintendent of the Kalispell Public School District Tuesday night, after current superintendent Mark Flatau announced his retirement earlier this year.

The school board will discuss timeline , job description, interview schedule for the candidates and a survey that will be sent to staff and the school community.

The survey will be used to help the board identify experience, qualifications and qualities the staff and community would like to see in the next superintendent. The school board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at Flathead High School in the Flex Room.

Flatau's official last day will be June 20, 2020. He told MTN News in an earlier interview that the decision had been a long time coming and that it wasn't made over one specific thing. “There are challenges, disappointments every year in some way shape or form."

He notes his decision to leave next summer will coincide with the completion of several district school projects. Flatau told us he thought this would be a natural time for a transition of leadership.
