The City of Bozeman has announced that a second, temporary shutdown of the Sourdough mainline will occur Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The shutdown is needed to complete work on the sourdough water main pipe, according to the city's communications coordinator. This is expected to be the final shutdown needed to complete the work, weather permitting.
As a precautionary measure, Bozeman residents are encouraged to be extremely conservative with city water use during the shutdown.
“This is the weak spot in the system," says Jill Miller, interim superintendent of the Bozeman Water Treatment Plant. "We have one pipe going to town for 80 percent of the water so if that pipe breaks, we’re in trouble. So this is providing some security for us to send water to town and everyone to have water.”
When complete, this $2 million project will improve and upgrade approximately 2,800 feet of water main pipe that connects the Bozeman Water Treatment Plant to the City of Bozeman.
Phase Two of the project will begin on an undetermined exact date next year.
