Bozeman Health prepares to open new neonatal intensive care unit

Big news coming out of Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital: the hospital's brand new, state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit will open to patients.

The hospital always offered labor and delivery services. But patients would have to be transferred to the nearest NICU hours away or sometimes out of state if higher medical treatment was needed for the baby.

But now, Bozeman Health is ready to open its own NICU, a needed offering in southwest Montana.

“Our closest neonatal intensive care units right now are in Billings, a couple hours away. Missoula, three hours away or so. So, to have these services right here in Bozeman will be really wonderful for the community,” said Dr. Diane Warner, a neonatologist at Bozeman Health.

The total cost of the NICU and family birth center project was a little more than $13.5 million, with about $2 million provided through donors.
