HELENA – All branches of the Lewis and Clark Library will be closed Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7, for the staff to undergo training and complete the library’s migration to the Montana Shared Catalog.
Systems Manager Matt Beckstrom explained that the process will cause a disruption in services for patrons who use the library’s online services, saying “in order to migrate to the new system, we need to completely shut down the old system, meaning that patrons will not be able to renew items, place holds on items, or search our catalog during the process.”
Beckstrom is hoping to keep the disruptions to a minimum. “We will work diligently to make the transition as smooth and quick as possible,” he said. “When the library reopens on Wednesday, May 8, the library will be ‘live’ on the Montana Shared Catalog, and the library staff and Montana Shared Catalog staff will be available to assist patrons with questions.
John Finn, Lewis and Clark Library director, announced that patrons will not be charged fines during the closure, as there are no items that will be due on those two days. “We have already adjusted the checkout period so that items will not be due during the time our system is down.”
