Evidence in East Helena death investigation suggests no criminal activity

(UPDATE, 7:45 p.m.) Lewis and Clark County Undersheriff Jason Grimmis said Thursday that authorities have found no evidence of a violent attack, as they investigate the death of an adult man at a residence in East Helena.

“Evidence leads us towards a non-criminal cause at this point,” he said.

Grimmis said it’s not clear yet what the man’s cause or manner of death were. An autopsy will be required to make that final determination.

(1st Report, 3:59 p.m.) Investigators have placed police tape around a residence in East Helena.

East Helena Police and Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 600 block of East Lewis just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officers were seen in the area throughout the morning and early afternoon. The coroner’s division was also on scene.

East Helena School District 9 posted an update to parents on its Facebook page around 2:15 p.m asking parents to avoid Lewis St. between Prickly Pear Elementary and East Valley Middle School after students were dismissed.

According to the post, law enforcement stated there was no danger.

Investigators have not released specific details about the incident.
