EAST HELENA – Two East Helena business owners are breathing new life into a historic building.
“Main Street Eats” owners, Dave and Annie Posey, renovated the Lucky’s building back into a candy, ice cream, and soda shop.
The shop opened earlier this week but the history of the building dates back over a hundred years.
The new shop is a nod to the building’s rich historical heritage, which once housed an ice cream parlor for more than 50 years. More recently, it housed a shoe repair and leather business.
Annie Posey stated, “The building was built in 1874, it’s the oldest standing building on Main Street and to preserve that is just cool. It really is. This is an old town, with old buildings and you know the heart of East Helena is strong.”
Dave Posey opened up about the inspiration for why after two long years, they’re proud to call it their own and reopen its doors.
“We’re taking it back to what it was as most adults in town remember it. In 1913, it was a soda fountain candy store, all the way up to 1980. So, it was a chance to bring back some history and a lot of these folks are bringing in their grandkids to see what it was like when they had a candy, soda, ice cream, shop for them,” Posey said.
The owners would like to give a special thanks to Jake Earnheart for all his work transforming of the building and say more than anything, they’re proud to preserve and strengthen East Helena’s Main Street.
Lucky’s will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 12-8 p.m. it’s located at 10 W. Main St.
