On Friday, firefighters, law enforcement, and community members got pied in the face at Safeway to raise money for Helena Food Share.

The clowning around was part of the store’s turkey buck drive, and every $20 donation earned a pie.

The is the second year first responders have taken part in the event and participants said they were happy to help out, and look a little funny, for a great cause.

“There’s a lot of folks out there that need help this time of year and we are all in this thing together so we’re trying to do our best to give them a hand,” said Rural Fire Council President Dave Sammons.

Sammons added that Eric Dowell of Safeway has been a tremendous force of charitable support for the community.

“Eric has been huge for the fire council,” said Sammons, “For the last few years, he’s fed our firefighter working on mutual aid events. He’s always doing something in the community for a fundraiser and this is our way to help pay him back.”

So far the store has raised $20,000 for Food Share this year and people can continue to make donations up through Thanksgiving.
