HELENA – Helena Public Schools celebrated a milestone on Tuesday as crews completed a significant step in constructing the new Bryant Elementary School.

The school district hosted a ceremony for parents, students, and teachers to watch as the frame of a new bridge was moved into place.

The bridge will allow students to move from the main building to the gym and music room without going outside. The district said the walkway will also serve as a learning space for school activities.

Last year, voters approved a $63 million bond issue to pay for new facilities at Central, Bryant, and Jim Darcy schools.

Kalli Kind, Facilities and Transportation Director for Helena Public Schools, said construction on all three schools is on track.

“Bryant is a little further ahead than the other two, but they all are exactly where they need to be,” Kind said. “Some of it just has to do with the timing of when different subcontractors come to the project, but we’re getting ready to button up for winter so we’re on schedule for opening in the fall.”

Central and Jim Darcy schools are also expected to be completed this fall.
