Families from around the Helena area kicked off their Halloweens early this weekend at the annual Candy Jam.
The free event was held Saturday afternoon at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds. It was organized by Capstone Church.
“We just wanted to do an event for our community that was totally free and was open to everybody and anybody that wanted to come,” said pastor Caleb Groteluschen. “We just wanted to do something to let our community know how much we love them.”
The event featured bounce house, games and activities, free food – and, of course, plenty of candy. Groteluschen said they gave away about 800 pounds – enough to fill a pickup truck.
This is the third year of the Candy Jam. Groteluschen said about 2,500 people took part in previous years, and that they expected that number to increase to between 3,500 and 4,000 this year.
“We’re glad our community is excited for things like this,” he said.
He said Capstone Church plans to host other community events like this throughout the year.
