The Helena Fire Department were able to quickly put out a garage fire on the south side of Helena early Tuesday morning, but not before the fire caused significant damage.

Authorities received a call at about 4:30 a.m. for a structure fire on the 700 block of Red Letter Street.

Fire Marshall Lou Antonick Fire told MTN crews saw flames pouring from the garage's roof and windows when they arrived on scene.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, but it is estimated to have caused upwards of $100,00 in damages.

The home near the garage did not suffer any damage, and there are no reported injuries from the incident.

Antonick reminds residents that if you see something, say something.

“We always encourage people, if you see something, go with their gut instinct and call 9-1-1,” said Antonick. “If you see smoke coming from a garage, a detached garage like that and you think it might be a fire, it doesn’t hurt to call 9-1-1 and have us check it out."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Antonick added people should make sure their heating systems are regularly checked in their garages just like their homes.
