HELENA — Helena Boy Scouts are beginning a new fundraiser by collecting and recycling Christmas trees for anyone in the Helena Valley.

On January 2nd and 9th, 2021, Troop 214 Boy Scouts will collect your Christmas tree after the holidays with a suggested donation of $10. After January 9th, the City of Helena will step in to collect any remaining trees.

Trees must have no decorations of any kind. Plus, no flocked trees will be accepted. The Boy Scouts and City of Helena recommend placing the tree outside for curbside pickup.

The Boy Scouts are conducting this fundraiser to recoup their items stolen from their storage shed in November. The troop says they are trying to recoup about $6,000 worth of items.

The Scoutmaster says the boys are ready to work hard and remain positive about recouping their losses.

“We are keeping positive about it. It’s a real disappointing thing, especially since the boys worked quite a few years to accumulate this equipment,” says Doug Wheeler, Troop 214 Scoutmaster. “The community has been really supportive and we’re hoping this is one small way that each person maybe can help us get us on our feet, as far as equipment goes.”

Collected trees will be taken to Fish, Wildlife & Parks at Canyon Ferry Lake. They will use the trees to improve fish habitat.
