Beginning Tuesday, July 27, a part of the River's Edge Trail will be temporarily closed for repair.
A stretch of the trail between the Black Eagle Dam and Giant Springs Road will be closed to the public while Sletten Construction Works to rebuild a portion of the trail.
This project has been in the works for about a year, stemming from a 2019 landslide on the trail.
Another goal of the construction is to restore the trail embankment and surface back to its original condition, and help prevent future landslides.
“We’ve tried some temporary repairs that didn’t hold, so this is a more robust fix to the problem,” said City of Great Falls Trails Coordinator Steffen Janikula. “It’s been in the works for about a year.”
The construction is expected to take no more than 45 days, and the Great Falls Parks and Recreation department said they appreciate everyone’s patience during the process.
