National First Responders Day celebrated in Great Falls

October 28th is National First Responders Day. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and military personnel are among those being honored. These dedicated professionals answer the call when an emergency rises, often putting their own lives in danger.

Some businesses in Great Falls are supporting the day by offering deals and services to those men and women.

Bison Ford is giving special offers on vehicles to all first responders, military, and veterans. The Double Barrel Cafe is selling bags of roasted coffee that when purchased, portions go to a fund that donates meals and other services to first responders.

Sam Wavra, a Great Falls police officer, says the love and support he receives from his community is outstanding. “Oh, it’s great! Like for instance, I can’t even stop at a stoplight without someone making me roll down my window and tell me ‘thank you’ or go into a gas station and get a coffee and someone stops you and says ‘thank you’. So that means the world. It’s a pretty great community.”

October 28th was designated as National First Responders Day by Congress in 2017.
