GREAT FALLS — Thomas Dunn, a Great Falls artist, has been selected as a finalist in the 2020 Pabst Blue Ribbon Can Art Contest. Pabst hosts the contest every year to give artists a chance to have their original design on Pabst beer cans nationwide.
About 4,000 entries were submitted from around the world, and Dunn was one of just 25 to make it to the finals. He hopes his piece - titled ’Super Duper Can Land’ - will take top honors.
“It’s like eye candy. It’s just meant to be really pleasing to the eye,” said Dunn about his piece. “I wanted it to look like you could pick up a video game controller and just start playing the can as if it were a TV.”
Now that finalists have been chosen, the Pabst contest is open to public vote on the top three winners. All 25 finalists will be commissioned by Pabst. But public recognition isn't all - the first-place winner will take home $10,000.
If Dunn wins, he says he would use the money to enrich the art culture in Great Falls: “My intentions with the prize money are to start an art collective. I fully intend to have pop-up galleries and collaborate with a lot of my young artist friends. Bring revitalization to the the Great Falls art scene that I think has been lacking for so long.”
