On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. drama students from CMR High School swapped candy for canned goods and non-perishables on a door-to-door drive for their school’s food pantry.

The "Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat" event originated from the International Thespian Society 16 years ago and is part of a national effort to serve the community.

Since its founding, participants have collected almost 4 million pounds of goods for good causes.

Theater kids put their stage presence to good use as they recite their trick or treat tune and request donations.

Drama students combined their Halloween and giving spirits as they walked nearby neighborhoods in pursuit of nonperishables.

CMR senior Shana Fronsee has been involved in CMR’s drama department her entire high school career and helped lead her fellow thespians on their trick-or-treating trek.

“This event, it's just, it's just extremely helpful honestly. I’m glad CMR drama is doing this to help the community in some way. And it's a great way to help out the schools around the area as well,” Fronsee said.

Fronsee explained how this event is a real treat for students in need.

“It's more of a way to help out kids at school who can't get away to go out to a grocery store and get their food. they need to have some help in some way, shape or form,” Fronsee said.
