Both the Helena and military communities are mourning the death of Mark Anthony Luther.

Luther, 37 years old, was shot and killed early Friday morning, November 20, during an argument. The suspect, 31-year-old Corey Micheal Kelly, was arrested Friday night and may appear in Justice Court as early as Monday.

According to family and friends, Luther served in the U.S. Army and is described as a person that would always give a hand to others.

"I think he inspired all of us in the transportation company we served in,” said Robert Flak, an army friend of Luther. “It was like, well, if he's happy, I should be happy. He was just an inspiration at all times. It doesn't matter how bad it is, it doesn't matter what you're going through, I got you, you're my brother, you're my sister. That was Mark Luther."

"I mean, even if you met him for a few seconds, if you needed something, he would drop everything for you," said Jennifer Benware, Luther’s aunt.

"This is a quote that you could probably hear him saying, ‘Do all things with kindness,'" said Flack.

The community has responded with an outpouring of support for Luther’s family. The GoFundMe page for the family raised their goal of $4,000 within 24 hours of his death and are on track to meet $10,000, as of Sunday afternoon. Click here if you would like to donate.
