The Department of Public Health and Human Services is reminding Medicare beneficiaries that open enrollment in the federal health coverage program started on October 15.

This is an opportunity for beneficiaries to look at their coverage for 2021 and changes.

One change is that now people with End Stage Renal Disease can now enroll into Medicare Advantage Plans. Another change is now there are participating plans that can cover costs for insulin. The highest cap for insulin would only be $35.

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program director says counselors are available to help guide you in the process but are no longer offering assistance in-person due to COVID. For this, it is important to call early.

“Because this is a busy time, they are going to be filling up quickly,” says Janet Stellmon, the SHIP director. “So if you want to get in with them, try to get in with a counselor, it's a good idea to call now. And that number, 800-551-3191 will direct you to your local SHIP counselor."

The last day to enroll is December 7th, 2020.
