A 23-year-old man is facing several felony charges for allegedly shooting at a sheriff’s deputy who was responding to a domestic disturbance call in Cut Bank.

Isaac Alan Matt is facing four felony charges for attempted deliberate homicide, assault on a peace officer, and two counts of criminal endangerment as well as a misdemeanor partner or family member assault following an incident on May 12.

An investigation by the Cut Bank Police Department showed family members were concerned about Matt’s wellbeing. During an incident with other people Sunday morning, Matt called police asking to speak with a specific officer, according to an affidavit.

When that officer did not answer, Matt left the house where he was met by a Glacier County Sheriff’s deputy.

Witnesses told investigators they saw the deputy talk to Matt and then attempt a pat down.

The affidavit states Matt pulled a gun from his waistband and the deputy ran around to the front of his patrol car.

Shots were then exchanged between Matt and the deputy before Matt threw the gun down and held his hands up, according to the affidavit.

When another officer arrived on scene, he observed bullet holes in the windshield and on the hood of the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. No injuries were reported in the shooting, however, and Matt was arrested without further incident.

During the investigation, one witness reported not feeling safe in the home with Matt as a pistol was missing. The witness told officers Matt was lighting matches and trying to stick them in her eye the previous night.

The Cut Bank Police Department is still investigating the shooting.
