Great Falls Emergency Services is taking more steps to ensure the safety of patients and crew members. The ambulance service recently bought a sanitation unit to help in cleaning ambulances.

General manager Justin Grohs says the new machine is able to kill germs in places that can be missed: “At this point we’re certainly using it after any high-risk calls and we’re doing a general prophylactic disinfection on each unit a couple times a week."

Grohs believes they’re the first ambulance service in the area to get this machine. They’re offering it to other agencies in our region, such as Belt and Fort Benton.

He says Great Falls Emergency Services has seen a drop in the number of ambulance calls since the pandemic; he attributes that partially to peoples’ concerns about contracting coronavirus after going to a hospital.

He urges those with health issues who feel the need for help to reach out.

“We don’t want folks to second-guess calling 911 because of COVID-19,” he said. “If they’re having a medical emergency they should absolutely still call.”
