The employees of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) donated $3,500 to the Friendship Center on Tuesday.

DPHHS director Sheila Hogan personally delivered the gift to the shelter and praised the hard work of the state employees.

“People that work at the department are there for a reason,” said Hogan. “It’s not just a job. They support the people that we serve and it’s really exciting that they still do this all on their own.”

The donation was raised by DPHHS staff through bake sales, chili-cook-offs, raffles and silent auctions.

Donation boxes were also set up at various Helena office locations.

In addition to the monetary donation, the agency collected personal care items, toys, and food for the organization.

“This donation will have a significant impact on the lives of the men, women, and children the Friendship Center serves,” said Friendship Center Executive Director Jenny Eck. “We thoroughly appreciate DPHHS for their continued support.”

DPHHS began the the annual holiday fundraiser 27 years ago.
