HELENA – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Helena and Great Falls said the financial picture for the coming year remains unclear.

The organization faced a financial crisis last year after state budget cuts left them without a serious portion of their annual funding.

Fundraising efforts including events like Bowl for Kids Sake and Wine Crush carried them through, and left them with about $18,000 to start the year. They still need nearly $400,000 for this year.

Colleen Brady, President of Big Brothers Big Sisters, said fundraising and government funding is unpredictable.

To help meet their budget, they have cut programs and had to eliminate 125 matches between adults and kids.

In an interview with Brady, she said, “How do we help our kids and our parents and our bigs? To help those kids to become resilient. That’s what we’re most interested in this year. So we need all of that help. We need the consistency of the help. Just like the consistency of the bigs.”

This year, Brady plans to do more hands-on networking to search for donors and volunteers.

If you are interested in getting involved, Big Brothers Big Sisters is accepting volunteers to help with future fundraising.

On October 1, Big Brothers Big Sisters will introduce a new brand that is brighter and bolder.

The brand will consist of a new logo, color, and a tagline.
