Sentencing for Nathan Lee Zipperian of Townsend, accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl, has been delayed.
Earlier this year, Zipperian entered Alford pleas to charges of forcing a 14-year old girl to give him oral sex in 2016, as well as asking for and receiving nude pictures of teenage girls on Snapchat.
He also allegedly sent nude pictures of himself to at least one teenage girl.
An Alford plea allows a defendant to assert their innocence while admitting that a jury – having heard the evidence – would likely return a guilty verdict.
On Friday in Broadwater District Court, Zipperian’s lawyer asked for sentencing in the case to be delayed, saying there is a problem with the pre-sentence investigation (PSI) report.
Mariah Eastman says the PSI writer exchanged his opinion on Zipperian’s risk for re-offense with that of an expert witness.
Broadwater County Attorney Corey Swanson didn’t object to the delay, but he told Judge Mike Menahan the issue is just one sentence in the report.
Sentencing has been delayed until June 1st.
Sexual assault on a minor carries a maximum of 100 years and a fine of $50,000.
Sexual abuse of children carries a maximum of 100 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
(FEBRUARY 24, 2017) A Townsend woman has been charged with four counts of felony sexual abuse of children.
Colleen Jade Nickerson is accused of texting topless photos of herself and two 14-year-old females at the request of another suspect, Nathan Zipperian, in June of last year.
The 22-year-old is also accused of bringing both females to Zipperian’s home. Once there prosecutors say Nickerson and Zipperian took one of the 14-year-old to a bedroom.
Nickerson is accused of pushing a dresser in front of a bedroom door and then hiding in a closet while 30-year-old Zipperian pushed the teenager onto a bed and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
Nickerson will be arraigned next Friday.
Zipperian has plead not guilty to rape and sexual abuse of children and is scheduled for trial in August.
