Airmen at Malmstrom Air Force Base have been participating in a shooting competition in honor of National Police Week.
The 341st Security Support Squadron Combat Arms unit organized the annual event.
This is the first time Airman 1st Class Calvin Shirey has competed.
"My team came out there to compete to get a little bit of experience shooting the M9 pistol and to have a good time," Shirey said.
The competition not only brought out security forces from across Malmstrom but they also invited members of Great Falls Police Department and Cascade County Sheriff’s Office to participate.
"It is a good time to get in touch with the civilian law enforcement and get out and put some rounds down range together," Shirey said.
Eight teams of four competitors each shoot in four different scenarios.
Their shooting skills are scored as a team and individually to see who can score a 123.
Combat Arms Instructor Staff Sergeant Alex New says this competition is centered around skills these airman learn in class.
"The fundamentals are the same but it is a little bit of a different course. They are not used to this course of fire, it is something new to challenge them," New said.
Even with this friendly event, instructors always take safety on the firing range very seriously.
"It is our number one concern whenever we teach classes is weapons safety, It is he first thing we cover and make sure every one is following all safety rules," New said.
And as these airmen share the range with other law enforcement professionals, they reflect on what this week is all about.
"We all have the same mission to make others lives better. It is a humbling week but it is a good week to be a part of," Shirey said.
This year’s top team is from the 741 Missile Security Forces Squadron: Staff Sergeant Joseph Andersen, Staff Sergeant Daniel Napolitano, Airman 1st Class Victor Cerna and Airman 1st Class Blake Ford.
Top shot winner is Agent Bryan Wolfe from Air Force Office of Special Investigation.
