Lewis & Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson has identified the man who was shot and killed in Helena on Thursday as 21-year old Ryan William Eakin.
The shooting happened at about 11:10 a.m. along the 1200 block of Bozeman Avenue.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Friday.
The suspect in the shooting has not yet been captured; authorities do not yet know the motive for the shooting.
As law enforcement officers searched the area for hours, several businesses in the area went into "lock-down" for several hours, while some chose to close for the day.
The owner of Element Consign & Design, Paula Bonar, chose to remain open and said that she felt safe due to the heavy police presence.
Bonar said, "Big shout-out to them, they got it done. They really did. I was proud to watch."
Bonar said that while it was a scary situation, it doesn’t define the Helena community: "That is not indicative of this neighborhood. That is not indicative of Helena. That is not who we are in this town."
