The Elk Trail Loop Fire northeast of Lincoln is 100% contained as of noon on Tuesday.
The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office has lifted the evacuation order and re-opened roads in the vicinity, and residents are once again able to access the subdivision.
The fire sparked on Monday afternoon near Elk Trail Loop east of Lincoln and several miles north of Highway 200.
Helicopters took water from Krohn Lake to drop on the fire as firefighters from Lincoln and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation worked to extinguish the fire.
Gusty winds fanned the flames, which burned about 10 acres.
"Nobody’s been hurt. I’m not sure if anyone was at those cabins at the time when it happened. The fire chief was down there after we got the report of that and the smoke got too bad and he had to leave to get himself out of there," said Sgt. Brent Colbert with the Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters remain in the area performing mop-up operations.
Jordan Koppen of the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation says that one seasonal residence, one garage, two outhouses, and one woodshed were destroyed by the fire; a vehicle also sustained some damage.
The Helena Interagency Fire Investigation Team has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
