GREAT FALLS — Non-profit officials around Cascade County have said they've seen many new faces reaching out for help this year. Fortunately, residents and businesses are also stepping up to make sure agencies have what they need.
The staff at the Saint Vincent De Paul of North Central Montana Community Food Bank say despite an uncertain year, they're encouraged by the community support so far. They've been able to supply food and hygiene products during times when items such as toilet paper were scarce.
Donations also helped the non-profit provide Thanksgiving meals to families and elderly residents, and they're ready to help even more new faces this Christmas.
SVDP is hosting their annual Christmas meal giveaway; they're inviting 500 families to register for a free meal that includes a turkey or ham, all the fixings, and toys for any kids up to age 17.
Staff members say they're happy to partner with area churches and organizations like Toys for Tots to host an event that brings much needed joy.
“It almost makes me want to cry,” said Food Bank Manager Aimee Dabler. “It's giving that smile and putting that smile on every one of their faces knowing that we were there to have that happen they got something that they wouldn’t have had if we weren’t here.”
Families can sign up for the meal giveaway by calling Opportunities, Inc. at 761-0310 or the SVDP Thrift Store at 761-0870.
SVDP will distribute the meals December 18th and 19th at the thrift store warehouse on Central Avenue West. Pick up times will be assigned during registration.
