One Class At A Time: Lona McClanahan

Posted

This week’s One Class At A Time recipient is East Valley Middle School instructional tutor Lona McClanahan.

McClanahan is helping her students stay focused on their reading.

Members of First Interstate Bank were joined by KXLH to surprise Horne in her classroom with a $250 check.

The money from the grant will be used to purchase alternative seating for her students.

“We’ll probably get some balls — I think I’ll definitely get another bungee-chair, they love the bungee-chair, just so they can be more comfortable,” said McClanahan.

McClanahan said sitting at a desk for long periods isn’t the best setup for some students and it can hinder their reading.

“They’re sitting in a desk all day long and if I can offer them another place to be, it might help them with their reading,” said McClanahan.

For more than a decade, First Interstate Bank and MTN have partnered for the One Class At A Time grant.

The mission of the grant is to foster educational opportunities for local teachers and students.

A panel of retired teachers and school officials select the grant recipients from a pool of submitted applications.
