People are asked to open up their hearts and pocketbooks once again to support nonprofits through Greater Helena Gives (GHG) .
The annual 24-hour event is put on by the Helena Area Community Foundation (HACF) and kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday April 30. The main fundraising drive will run through 6:00 p.m. Friday May 1, but they’re going to make the donations live until May 5 just in case people missed the initial day.
In addition to donating directly to the more than 70 nonprofits signed up, this year people can also give to a community fund that will be split across all participating nonprofits.
“This is a time for people to be able to show nonprofits that they care about the work they’re doing,” said Emily Flemming, HACF executive director. “Right now a lot of nonprofits are struggling and they can really use some help to make sure they’re able to rebound and recover.”
Flemming asks people to take a moment to think about what they care about in the world. Be it their pet, conservation or owning a home for example, chances are there is a nonprofit working to help a related cause.
“Nonprofits fill those gaps that government and business leave behind,” said Flemming. “We really want to make sure we still have those conservation groups, museums and other services nonprofits provide after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.”
