East Helena High School (EHHS)freshman had a chance to leave their mark on their new school.
Students added more than 100 handprints and signatures to a main beam of the new school on Wednesday.
The beam will be installed at a topping-out ceremony on Thursday September 19 at 10:00 a.m.
Freshman Class President Trance Koch said this was a pretty awesome opportunity for him and his classmates.
“It’s pretty awesome being able to make a mark that will be there forever,” said Koch. “It’s a first time deal that not many people get to do.”
“Not a lot of people get to do this, it’s pretty cool,” said Isabelle Lowrey, EHHS freshman.
Students MTN spoke with said so far they are really enjoying their freshman year.
“You know it feels pretty good,” said Christian Ayers. “It would feel better if we were already in our new building, but I mean you do what you gotta do. I like all of my teachers, the classes are fun. I definitely wouldn’t go back to middle school.”
East Helena High School classes are currently being held in a wing of East Valley Middle School.
“The kids have a tradition here at East Valley of putting their handprints on one of the walls in the school and sign their names,” Principal Dan Rispens explained. “This is kind of a cool way the kids can put their mark on the new school and get excited about what they’re going to be moving into next year.”
