Montana Ag Network Weather (1010) Changing pasture conditions

A recent bout of cold and wet weather has caused range and pasture conditions to begin deteriorating along with a slowed fall harvest.

According to the latest USDA Crop Progress and Condition Report, farmers have noted the cool weather and missed precipitation continue to slow harvest in many areas.

The potato harvest was 33 percent complete last week, that’s behind last year’s progress of 69 percent.

Corn for grain harvest was 22 percent complete, which aligns with both the previous year and 5-year average.

Winter wheat seeded was 60 percent complete, behind last year’s progress of 72 percent.

Livestock movement from summer pasture is behind the previous year and 5-year average with only 22 percent of cattle and 20 percent of sheep moved.
